About FHO

Future Homebuyers Organization (FHO) is a community-driven nonprofit dedicated to creating permanently affordable, stable homeownership opportunities for Bellingham and Whatcom County residents who have been priced out of the traditional housing market. Our mission is to prevent displacement, empower renters, and expand access to homeownership through resident-owned communities, innovative partnerships, and education.

Bellingham faces one of the most severe affordability crises in Washington. As rents climb and naturally affordable homes disappear, too many families are at risk of being pushed out of their neighborhoods. FHO exists to change that.

We focus on projects that deliver fast, practical, high-impact solutions—converting existing properties into resident-owned communities and partnering with local developers to secure new homes at discounted prices. These homes remain affordable forever, giving working families stability, equity, and a future in the community they love.

Our approach is collaborative. We complement the essential work of organizations like Kulshan Community Land Trust and Habitat for Humanity by identifying additional opportunities to bring more affordable homes online, more quickly. Together, we’re expanding the pathways to homeownership and strengthening housing stability for generations.
